About Jennifer WilkinsonJennifer has had a love of the arts for many years. She developed her skills initially through craft work, painting and drawing. Her early paintings were undertaken in watercolours to depict light moving over various surfaces in the landscape. Through her painting, Jennifer discovered a love of plants and found herself focussing in this area either close- up or in the distance. During those years she participated in many group exhibitions in Tasmania.
In 1996, Jennifer began studying botanical art under the guidance of Jenny Phillips at the Botanical Art School of Melbourne. She discovered botanical art was a real ‘coming home’ experience for her. She first exhibited at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne in The Art of Botanical Illustration in 1996. Since that time she has continued to show her work there in their biennial selected exhibitions. Jennifer has also had several solo exhibitions in Tasmanian galleries in Hobart, Scottsdale and Launceston. She has also exhibited in group exhibitions in Launceston, particularly with people who attended her Adult Education classes. In 2007, Jennifer's work was selected for inclusion in the Highgrove Florilegium and in 2008, she was awarded the Celia Rosser Medal for Botanical Art. Jennifer is a member of the Botanical Art Society of Australia. |
